The Virgin Islands in January
Visiting the Virgin Islands for the first time as a 28-year-old was a great way to get a taste of everything that the islands have to offer. I was able to partake in anything and everything available, but thankfully I did so without quite as many of the youthful follies that can, in younger years, befall a well-planned trip. We had 11 days in the Virgin Islands to do everything. Arriving on New Year’s Eve and leaving January 11. I had decided two days before arriving that I would get to my destination the hard but fruitful way – through a combination of walking and public transit. That method, I find, forces a better understanding of the place you in, the surroundings, and at least a general sense of direction. Not to mention you might actually get to meet someone. Upon arriving on St. Thomas, we settled in to our friends’ house and made our way immediately over to St. John for the New Years' Eve celebrations happening there. ...
